Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was arrested late Friday after reportedly engaging in a “physical fight” with his girlfriend, according to a police report published by The Seattle Times,
Citing the report by Kent Police, Wheeler faces allegations that he assaulted the woman in the Seattle suburb of Kent.
The Kent police report said police responded to a call from a woman who was trapped in a bathroom following a “verbal altercation” with her boyfriend.
When police finally arrived, they forced their way into the house and found Wheeler in the bathroom with the woman.
The Seahawks issued a statement Monday night saying they were aware of the situation and were continuing to collect information.
The incident started when Wheeler ordered the woman to bow before him, the report stated. Wheeler is 6-ft, 7-ins., 310 pounds, and the victim is 5-ft., 9-ins., 145 pounds, according to the report.
The report also said Wheeler then strangled the victim before she lost consciousness, and added that when the victim regained consciousness, Wheeler was standing near the bed and said, “Wow you’re alive?”
The victim then ran into the bathroom where she called family members and 911, according to the report. Wheeler picked the lock on the door and went into the bathroom before the police got there.
According to the charging document, the woman was taken to a hospital due to pain in her arm. Scans showed a fractured humerus and dislocated elbow in her left arm. The report also noted that the whites of her eyes had turned almost completely red, which is consistent with signs of strangulation.
The documents show a scan of the woman’s chest revealed she had aspirated fluid and that she vomited large amounts of blood the next day. She also reported a sore throat, difficulty swallowing and eating, headache and neck pain, “which suggests possible internal injuries to the structures within the neck.”
The Seahawks released a statement that Wheeler is no longer with the team. The NFL had listed Wheeler on its waiver wire on Wednesday.
Events happened over the weekend that transpired from a manic episode. I am deeply sorry for the pain and suffering that I have caused to Alleah and her family.
Chad Wheeler is someone completely different than my roommate and brother at SC, and today I had to come to terms with that. What he did was heartbreaking, and I will never forgive…
My thoughts, and prayers go out to the victim. She and her health should be the upmost priority
Chad Wheeler of the @Seahawks tried to kill his girlfriend because she wouldn’t bow to him. He was even surprised at her survival.
If you’re not outraged, you’re part of the problem. @NFL handle this swiftly & decisively. pic.twitter.com/R2IF1HwMow
