The Los Angeles Dodgers will be the first champion sports team to visit the White House under President Joe Biden’s administration.
The Dodgers won last year’s World Series after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in October. This was their first victory in the championship in 32 years.
The White House announced on Thursday that the team was invited to a ceremony in the East Room. Also attending the event is Vice President Kamala Harris.
The last time the Dodgers visited the White House was in 1988, under President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
Since March 2020, no sports team has visited the White House due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Dodgers’ visiting party is limited to 50 people due to Covid-19 protocols. Only the players who played in last year’s World Series Championship will be attending the event.
The Dodgers are currently in Washington, D.C. to face the Washington Nationals in a four-game series.
