Padres’ Mike Clevinger will miss entire 2021 MLB season due to Tommy John surgery

The San Diego Padres announced on Monday that pitcher Mike Clevinger will miss the entire 2021 season because of Tommy John surgery.

The surgery was needed after he suffered a right posterior elbow injury after making his last regular-season start on September 23.

Also on Monday, the team announced that they reached an agreement with the 29-year old pitcher on a two-year contract that will pay him $11.5 million.

Clevinger had a 2.84 ERA in four regular season starts for the Padres after he was acquired from the Indians on August 31 in a blockbuster, nine-player trade with Cleveland.
