Our Story

What is SportsWriters? We are a collection of like-minded  sports fans, quality writers, researchers and other contributors looking for the latest daily news on sports and our favorite teams and players.

Our story begins with frustration at the way websites have evolved over the past 10 years. It now seems that the only thing that matters to website producers is dissecting and profiling you, their audience, in the name of profit.

Most sites are of the cookie-cutter variety with sensational content, click-bait links, and advertisements plastered all over the site….not to mention those annoying pop-up ads!

In addition, because the large search engines and social networks are “pay to play” and based on “most popular” sorting, great content is often difficult to find, buried on page 10 of search results.  Great local sportswriters’ articles from different cities are sometimes not easy to find.

What if there was an independent website that aggregated the best sportswriters in local markets, cataloged and tagged the content, and made it easy to find.  And what if it empowered its users to voice their opinion in the development of new features.  The audience could power the evolution of the site.  And, what if, contributors could become featured sportswriters?  Well, that’s what we thought!

So, in our spare time, we’ve spent the last year working with a team of tech professionals from around the world to come up with a new type of sports website that caters to the users and fans.  But we can’t do it alone.  We need your help.

To make it enjoyable to create and consume content again.

We have set out on an ambitious endeavor.  To date we have built the framework of SportsWriters to power the following:

  • 52 City pages
  • 123 Pro Teams pages (NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB)
  • 300 Publications
  • 600+ writers
  • 1000s of articles indexed per day
  • 1000s of Twitter Feeds indexed per day
  • Sortable Stats and Leaders for all Leagues
  • Player Pages for All Active Players
  • Pages for all Leagues, Conferences and Divisions
  • Team Schedules and Results
  • “Versus” commenting platform

We believe this is more than enough to test our ambitious concept.

The next step is,well…you!  We need your help in determining what we got right, what we got wrong, and how to improve the site.  Together we can take the site to the next level. To do that, you can Contact Us or use the Feedback Form to let us know what you think.

We are just getting started!  Shortly you can look forward to several New Features.

Your contributions are not only appreciated — they power the site!
