The Orlando Magic are close to signing Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Jamahl Mosley as the next Magic head coach, sources told ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.
Mosley has emerged as a possible NBA head coach over the past two years, and he is now one of the leading contenders to become the successor of Orlando’s former coach, Steve Clifford, who resigned in June 2021.
His first NBA job was as a player development coach and scout for the Denver Nuggets in 2005. The 42-year-old then joined the Mavericks in 2014 as an assistant coach under Rick Carlisle. Before that, he was working with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2010 to 2014.
The Magic have the No. 5 and No. 8 pick in the NBA Draft, along with youngsters such as Jonathan Isaac, RJ Hampton, Markelle Fultz, and Wendell Carter Jr.
