New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas wrote a cryptic tweet that suggested the team was trying to “damage” his reputation.
It is understood that Thomas should have undergone surgery this offseason. However, he did not get it until June, and the Saints are upset that he was missing for a significant period of time.
It was rumored that the 28-year-old ignored calls from the team’s trainer, wide receivers coach, the team’s medical staff, and head coach Sean Payton before finally getting surgery on his ankle.
“They tried to damage your reputation,” Thomas wrote Monday morning. “You saved theirs by not telling your side of the story.”
Payton previously said that he was disappointed knowing the All-Pro would be missing for a sizeable amount of time.
“It’s disappointing,” Payton said. “And we’ll work through it with the other players that are here. But the surgery took place, and obviously, we would’ve liked that to happen earlier than later. And quite honestly, it should’ve.”
Thomas had to miss six games last season due to the injuries he suffered. He also did not score a touchdown last year. Previously in 2019, he scored nine along with 1,725 yards.
