The Miami Heat will open sections of the American Airlines Arena beginning April 1 for those who are fully immunized against the coronavirus.
The Heat are devoting two sections to fully inoculated fans in which groups are divided by a single seat.
Fans in this area will be required to wear masks although social withdrawal policies are slightly relaxed.
“You’re already getting a sense that things are starting to change and go in a much more positive direction,” said Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra.
While the Heat is thought to be the first team in the United States to announce such a plan, the idea is almost certain to be commonplace in the sports world, at least in an early time while vaccines go ahead.
The Heat are also one of three teams, the other of which are New Orleans and Atlanta, that have publicly announced initiating the vaccination process in recent days.
