The Cleveland Indians announced on Monday that Josh Naylor suffered a closed fracture and dislocation of his right ankle when he collided with his teammate, Ernie Clement, in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins
The 24-year-old was scheduled to have his ankle evaluated by specialist Dr. Mark Berkowitz on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
During Sunday’s 8-2 loss to the Twins, Naylor collided with Clement in shallow right field while both players were trying to catch a ball hit by Jorge Polanco.
Naylor went for the ball and landed awkwardly. He then signaled for medical attention flailing in pain. The game was stopped, and he was taken off the field in a cart with his right ankle placed into an air cast.
“Josh Naylor left today’s game following a collision in shallow right field,” the Indians tweeted. “Please keep @JoshNaylor44 in your thoughts. ❤️”
“Our thoughts are with Josh Naylor and @Indians. 🙏❤️,” the Twins also posted on Twitter.
