Gerard Gallant to become Rangers’ new head coach

Gerard Gallant has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the New York Rangers.

Gallant will replace former head coach David Quinn who was fired after failing to qualify for the playoffs in the East Division following the 2020-21 season.

Previously, Gallant was the head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights. As the first Golden Knight head coach, he won the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year in 2017-18, while leading the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final in Vegas.

The Golden Knights sacked Gallant during the 2019-20 season and replaced him with former Panthers head coach Peter DeBoer.

Gallant also coached the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers in the past.

Gallant is expected to stay with the Rangers for at least four years.
