It turns out that Tom Brady could only sit on the sidelines for six weeks. The seven-time Super Bowl champion announced that he would return for his 23rd season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 44-year-old realized that he still wants to play and is not ready to hang up his cleats just yet.

“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady wrote. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa.”

Brady announced his retirement last month as the Bucs lost in the divisional round of the playoffs to the Los Angeles Rams, 30-27. At that time, Brady thought that he had given everything he had to defend the Super Bowl title, but it came up short as they were defeated on a last-second field goal.

Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians said his team would always welcome Brady whenever he wanted to play again.

“Whenever Tom wants to come back, he’s back,” Arians said at the NFL Scouting Combine in March. “If Tom wants to come back, we’ll have plenty of money for him.”

So far, the Bucs just secured center Ryan Jensen to a three-year, $39 million contract following Brady’s news, according to ESPN.

However, there is still a lot to do for Arians and Tampa Bay to strengthen their squad for the upcoming new season.
