Following the painful loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing the possibility of Tom Brady’s retirement.
Sources close to the Buccaneers and Brady all agree that the star quarterback is still undecided about staying beyond this season, though Brady has spoken about playing until he is 45. Still, it is far from certain, according to ESPN.
After the game on Sunday, Brady spoke to reporters and said, “I haven’t put a lot of thought into it. We’ll just take it day by day and see where we’re at.”
The 44-year-old was also questioned if he ever imagined this would be the last time he played in an NFL game. But his thoughts seemed to wander elsewhere.
“I was thinking about winning,” Brady stated. “That’s kind of my mentality—always to go out there and try to win.”
The sources also revealed that Brady is content in Tampa, and team insiders noted that the Buccaneers are happy with him there as well. Tampa Bay’s coaches and management are clear in their intention to continue working with Brady beyond this season, which they plan to communicate to him after the season concludes.
Brady ended the regular season with the most passing yards (5,316) and touchdown passes (43) in the NFL, and he’s a strong contender for his fourth MVP title.
However, only time will tell if he ever plays in another NFL game again.
