Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady became the first player in the history of the NFL to reach 600 touchdown passes at home on Sunday, as he led the Buccaneers to a 38-3 win over the Chicago Bears.

Brady tossed his 600th career touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Evans with 10 seconds left in the first quarter on a nine-yard touchdown strike. Previously, the 44-year-old veteran threw his 599th to Chris Godwin in the build-up to a 21-0 first-quarter lead over the visiting team.

Evans, not realizing the significance of Brady’s 600th touchdown pass, threw the ball to a fan in the stands. The Bucs then retrieved the ball and gave the fan a different one and a signed jersey.

The former Patriots star threw two more touchdown passes on Sunday, for two yards and eight yards, both also to Evans. He already held the record for most touchdown passes in the NFL prior to the historic pass. The closest player to him is Drew Brees with 571.

Tampa Bay backup QB Blaine Gabbert replaced Brady in the fourth quarter. He finished the game 20-of-36 for 211 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Buccaneers improve their record to 6-1.
