The Green Bay Packers, led by Aaron Rodgers, were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round game in Wisconsin on Saturday, resulting in unrelenting mockery of Rodgers and the Packers from people all over the world.
The Packers had high hopes after finishing as the No. 1 seed in the NFC and playing almost a spotless regular season led by Rodgers, who put up another MVP-caliber season. Thus, being knocked out in the divisional round at home is a major setback for the club.
Another playoff flop by Rodgers helped pave the way for social media users to mock him. Skip Bayless, co-host of Fox Sports’ “Undisputed,” was one of the talking heads, and he tweeted a play on words by incorporating Rodgers’ COVID-19 vaccine stance.
“I guess Aaron Rodgers also got immunized against winning in the postseason,” Bayless tweeted.
Meanwhile, another commentator, Chris Hahn, attacked Rodgers and the Packers’ poor performance against the 49ers by tweeting “Maybe Aaron Rodgers took coaching advice from Joe Rogan too.“
Rodgers’ statement of being “immunized” despite not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 in the summer has come back to haunt him.
Rodgers himself had an extremely poor performance after the first drive of the game, which resulted in a touchdown for Green Bay. However, they were only able to score just three more points the rest of the game.
The result was a wake-up call and certainly a horrible way to end this season. This was exacerbated by the fact that San Francisco won thanks to a blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown.
Rodgers may depart Lambeau Field as the reigning MVP, as he stated postgame that he wouldn’t be part of the reconstruction and might move on to another team if he decides not to retire.
