Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that the team had signed veteran running back Adrian Peterson to the team’s practice squad, only weeks after the former MVP was released by the Tennessee Titans.

Peterson was released by the Titans on November 23 after appearing in only three games this season. Previously, Peterson was a free agent for the first eight weeks of the current season. He replaced Derrick Henry who was sidelined due to an injury and ran 27 times for 82 yards and made a touchdown for Tennessee.

“I’m blessed to be in the situation that I’m in,” Peterson told reporters after Tennessee’s Week 10 victory over the New Orleans Saints. “A great fanbase, a lot of love they were showing today. I just want everyone to know that I’m gonna continue to get better each week and just keep pressing forward.”

Seattle is currently 3-8 on the season and has lost six of their last seven games. As a team, the Seahawks are averaging 4.2 yards per carry and rank 31st in the league.

“Excited to see if he can help us out and give us a little something,” Carroll said. “He’s a player that I’ve known forever, way back to his high-school days, and admired him tremendously over the years. Always disappointed we didn’t get him back in the day, but like I just told him, we finally got him.

“So I’m looking forward to seeing how he does and where he can fit in,” he continued. “He’s an incredible competitor and a great guy, so I’m anxious to give him a chance to get on the field with our boys.”
