Scottie Scheffler won the 2022 Masters on Sunday at Augusta National with a 10-under overall tournament score. The victory marks his first major win, and fourth PGA Tour. And he now is the proud owner of a green jacket along side the $2.7 million winning prize of the tournament.

The 25-year-old entered Augusta National with the No. 1 ranking on the PGA Tour. Despite a seamless run through Sunday, Scheffler admitted he was stressed and overwhelmed earlier in the morning.

“I cried like a baby this morning,” Scheffler said. “I was so stressed out. I didn’t know what to do. I was sitting there telling Meredith, ‘I don’t think I’m ready for this. I’m not ready. I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff,’ and I just felt overwhelmed.”

Until his wife, Meredith, replied “who are you to say that you are not ready?”

The response reminded the pro golfer to just give his best, which he did.

Scheffler held a three-shot lead over five-time PGA Tour winner Cameron Smith. Scheffler and Smith were each aiming for their first major championship.

Smith won last month’s Players Championship, while Scheffler has been on a meteoric rise since starting 2022 without a PGA Tour victory. He has won three tournaments in his past five starts.

Fortune favored Scheffler over the Australian golfer on the par-3 12th hole as Smith hit his shot into the water, missed the green, and had to two-putt, giving him triple-bogey and placed him six strokes behind his opponent approaching the final six holes.

The two tried competing on the 13th hole, but the former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy wrapped his round with a great shot, making him 7-under from the right bunker on the 18th hole, which eventually led him to finish second.

Scheffler, with five holes to play, birdied both the 14th and 15th, with a 12-under tournament score. He made pars on the 16th and 17th and secured his victory on a double bogey on the 18th.
