The Green Bay Packers suffered an embarrassing 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints in their season opener on Sunday, and head coach Matt LaFleur did not hide his disappointment.

“They came ready to play; absolutely embarrassed us today,” LaFleur told reporters. “Our guys are going to have to take a long, hard look in the mirror. That starts with myself. Obviously, I didn’t get these guys ready to go play ball.

“It’s very humbling, to say the least,” LaFleur continued. “We have to get back to work. This isn’t going to magically repair itself.”

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rogers did not show his MVP caliber of play, and did not deny his head coach’s assessment of the game.

“We played bad,” Rodgers said via the team’s website. “I played bad. Offensively, we didn’t execute very well. One game, we’ve got 16 to go. This is a good kick in the you-know-where to, hopefully, get us going in the right direction.”

Before the game started, the veteran quarterback admitted that he believed the Packers would trade him in the offseason.

“Yeah, I did,” said Rodgers in an exclusive interview with FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews. “Because they wouldn’t commit to me past 2021. So I figured if they wanted to make a change, even though I just won MVP, why wait?”

LaFleur rejected the idea that the interview influenced the result of the game.

“No, I think this team’s focused on now,” LaFleur said. “And unfortunately, sometimes in this league you get humbled. And certainly, we got humbled. Like I said, it’s about how we respond to that. How we come back to work. How we stay together. And get ready to play against a team I know is gonna be really hungry coming in here.”
