The Los Angeles Rams announced Wednesday that they acquired former New England Patriots running back Sony Michel.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Patriots will receive a fifth and sixth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-round selection based on compensation picks.

The 26-year-old was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Patriots. He started 22 games and had over 1,800 combined yards in his first two seasons.

He only appeared in nine games last season. He ran for 449 yards and scored one touchdown. Overall, he had 535 carries for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns in 38 games in New England.

Michel joins the Rams when the team has been plagued by injuries. Running back Cam Akers tore his right Achilles during a workout prior to the team’s training camp. Running back Darrell Henderson Jr. also injured one of his thumbs, although he returned to practice on Tuesday with a brace protecting his left hand.

In the final year of his contract, Michel is set to earn a base salary of $1.79 million.
