The New Orleans Saint may have lost Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill in its game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but they still had Trevor Siemian, and he did not disappoint.
Siemian finished the night completing 16 of 29 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown as the Saints defeated the Bucs 36-27 at Caesars Superdome.
Winston had to be sidelined after suffering a left knee injury early in the second quarter when he was pulled down from behind by Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, who was later flagged for a horse-collar tackle.
New Orleans coach Sean Payton addressed Winston’s injury after the game.
“I think it’s significant,” said Payton. “He felt something and is on crutches right now. … When he got up and then had to go back down, you were a little concerned.”
Siemian, who previously played for the Denver Broncos, was happy to be able to contribute to the team.
“There’s a joy to this game,” Siemian said. “There’s nothing better than to see your teammates make plays and you’re moving the ball and it’s the best.”
Meanwhile, Tom Brady finished 27 of 36 for 364 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, but it was not enough for the defending champions to secure their eighth win of the season.
