The Dallas Cowboys quest for its first Super Bowl appearance since 1995 ended with a thud. The Cowboys faced a surging San Francisco 49ers team in a Wild Card game on Sunday and and lost 23-17.

By beating the Los Angeles Rams in overtime last week, the 49ers clinched a play-off spot on the final day of the regular season and secured a meeting with their old rival Dallas.

The 49ers held the Cowboys to just seven points in the first three quarters of the game before starting quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense revved up their dormant offense in the fourth quarter.

However, their comeback efforts came up short when Prescott rushed to the 49ers 24-yard line with time running out and could not stop the clock in time.

“We’ve practiced it,” Prescott said. “You hand it to the center. The umpire, all he has to do is usually come in and tap the ball. Don’t necessarily know exactly … why the hit (with the official) happened, I guess. Yeah, I know he’s going to come in and touch the ball. We could say, ‘Yeah, he needs to be closer to the ball,’ or whatever, but in hindsight, it’s just tough. Just tough to accept.”

Adding insult to injury were several meme’s circulating on social media throughout the game showing Cowboy fans in various states of despair.
