It was not a Merry Christmas for the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, as they lost 122-115 to the Brooklyn Nets for their fifth straight defeat.

Russell Westbrook once again was under scrutiny for his poor defense against James Harden and the Nets even though Westbrook recorded 13 points, 11 assists, and 12 rebounds for his seventh triple-double of the season.

Former Boston Celtics center and now NBA pundit Kendrick Perkins was not shy to share his thoughts on LeBron James’ team.

“Some people in the country, they burn they trash, and it stinks when they burn it,” Perkins said. “I mean, hot garbage. That’s who the Lakers are right now. … I’m tired of talking about the Lakers. You know why? Because they don’t deserve to be talked about. … They haven’t earned the right to be talked about. … They are trash.”

NBA Twitter also shared the same feeling with Perkins towards Westbrook.

“The Lakers would have a pretty healthy lead if Russell Westbrook had just converted all of his uncontested layups,” Bill Oram said.

“Russell Westbrook getting stuffed by the rim on a dunk attempt 👀,” Bill Heyen of Sandusky Register tweeted.

The Ringer’s Kevin Connor suggested that the Lakers “should explore every possibility to trade Russell Westbrook,” and added that the former MVP was “reckless” and “will never change.”

Meanwhile, LeBron decided to take his teammate’s side and said Westbrook just had an “off-shooting night.”

“I think he missed so many shots around the rim that he’s been accustomed to making throughout his career and throughout this season,” James said. “So, not worried about too much of that. He gave us extra possessions, he gave us a lot of looks around the basket, which I know that he can’t stand (failing to convert) as well.”

The Lakers will need all hands on deck with the absence of Anthony Davis due to a knee injury, and now they are below .500 after the loss.
