The NBA has revised its format for the NBA All-Star Game this season, which is scheduled to run from February 18-20 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Events Rundown Brief

The event this week begins on Friday with the Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game at 7 p.m., followed by the Clorox Rising Stars Tournament at 9 p.m.

Then, three events are featured on Saturday night: the Skills Challenge at 8 p.m., followed by the 3-Point Contest, and then the AT&T Slam Dunk contest to wrap up the evening.

The main event is set to take place Sunday night when Team LeBron’s All-Stars will play Team Durant’s All-Stars at 8 p.m.

On Team LeBron is LeBron James himself, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo and more. While some players on Team Durant are LaMelo Ball (Kevin Durant’s injury replacement), Joel Embiid, and Trae Young.

The NBA also has made several adjustments on the formats for two competitions and added two more games to the weekend All-Star game lineup.

The rising Stars format will have four teams drafted by the NBA legends instead of featuring Team World vs. Team USA having roosters of rookies and second-year players. Moreover, the new format will have the four teams compete in a two-round, single-elimination tournament.

In addition to that, 50 points are set for the opening-round games, 25 points for the championship game, 75 points in honor of the NBA’s 75th anniversary. Reportedly, 12 rookies and 12 sophomores will be joining in the pool of players of four G Leaguers.

More details about NBA new formats

The skills competition on Saturday will no longer feature a head-to-head, single-elimination format. Three teams of three will compete in three rounds of competition while gathering points instead. Additionally, first and second rounds will have each team member shoot from different locations, and pass to a variety of targets of different sizes.

The third round is a team relay through an obstacle course. Two teams with the most points after all rounds proceed to the finals, which is a half-court shooting contest.

The HBCU Classic game is a marquee game between HBCUs on Saturday and there will be an inaugural game featuring the Howard Bison against Morgan State Bears.

The G League game will also feature another contest between the G League Ignite playing against the Cleveland Charge at Wolstein Center.

NBA Crossover

Another event that will make an appearance is the NBA Crossover, an interactive fan event that showcases NBA’s pop culture from music, art, tech, fashion, and basketball all in one place.

NBA’s director of global events Steve Lichtenberger said that NBA Crossover infuses pop culture aspects and the NBA.

“I think we tried to take a little bit of our players’ personalities and bring that to life here,” Lichtenberger said, as per Cleveland.com. “NBA players are into all different facets of culture, from art to music, fashion and technology. This event really infuses all of that together.”
