An agreement has been reached between MLB team owners and the players association regarding players’ rights and regulations. With that agreement, the new season is scheduled to begin on April 7.

“I do want to start by apologizing to our fans,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “I hope that the players will see the effort we made to address their concerns in this agreement as an olive branch in terms of building a better relationship.”

The negotiations took exactly 99 days as several proposals went back and forth between the two parties.

Both parties finally agreed on some massive changes, such as an expansion of the DH to the National League, increasing the number of teams to compete in the postseason from 10 teams to 12, and regulations on advertisements on teams’ uniforms.

In addition, a more balanced timeline to reduce intradivision play beginning in the 2023 season and measures on the amateur draft lottery have also been agreed upon.

However, some could still feel the tension between MLB and MLBPA since both Manfred and union leader Tony Clark gave separate press conferences. Clark told the media that he will appear on Friday.

“Our union endured the second-longest work stoppage in its history to achieve significant progress in key areas that will improve not just current players’ rights and benefits, but those of generations to come,” Clark said in a written statement.

The MLBPA approved the five-year contract at around 3 p.m. with a 26-12 vote and the owners unanimously agreed with a 30-0 vote just under three hours later. The lockout was officially ended.
