Miami Dolphins new head coach Mike McDaniel has promised to bring out “all of the greatness” from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
McDaniel was hired as the Dolphins head coach after the franchise parted ways with Brian Flores following the end of the regular season and the franchise’s failure to make the playoffs for five years straight.
As McDaniel was on his way to Florida, he had a fun call with Tagovailoa saying that the two will have an extensive professional relationship.
“We’re going to have an extensive professional relationship, my man,” McDaniel says. “One thing I know about you is you have the ambition to be great. My job is to coach you, to get all that greatness out of you. And it’s going to be fun, man.
“It’s going to be work, but I know you’re not afraid of that. So this is an awesome day for me and I’m damn sure going to make sure that when you look back on this day, you’re going to be like, ‘Damn, that was one of the best days of my career,’ too. OK? But I’ll earn that from you. You got me?”
McDaniel had spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He recently served as the team’s OC (2021) and the 49ers run game coordinator (2017-2020).
Tagovailoa responded to McDaniel with excitement that there is no other coach he would like to work with more.
“I am very excited and there would have been no other coach in the world that I would have liked to work under more,” Tagovailoa said.
Tagovailoa, however, does not play the same as he did way back in the college level two years into his NFL career. If there is any greatness in the quarterback anymore then McDaniel is the one to pull it out.
