In the wake of former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores’ lawsuit against the NFL and his former team, owner Stephen Ross could potentially be forced to sell the Dolphins, multiple sources reported.
Flores claimed that Ross offered him money to lose games on purpose in order to secure the team a higher draft pick during the 2019 season. The money was reported around $100,000 for each game.
The 81-year-old owner has strongly denied all allegations against him.
“With regards to the allegations being made by Brian Flores, I am a man of honor and integrity and cannot let them stand without responding,” Ross said in a statement. “I take great personal exception to these malicious attacks, and the truth must be known. His allegations are false, malicious and defamatory. We understand there are media reports stating that the NFL intends to investigate his claims, and we will cooperate fully.”
Ross also said that the Dolphins will “welcome the investigation” and he is “eager to defend his personal integrity” from “baseless, unfair and disparaging claims.”
In addition, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has promised to address these allegations thoroughly.
“When we know what those facts are, and the impact that it has on our game, we’ll deal with it very seriously,” Goodell said.
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the other NFL owners could force Ross out of Miami if the required amount of votes are met.
“A league source confirmed that owners could, in fact, vote a fellow owner out under the most dire circumstances based on league rules, which would require a three-fourths vote,” Rapoport wrote Monday morning.
