Matthew Stafford to receive $45 million contract from Rams
After leading the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl championship, quarterback Matthew Stafford reportedly could be paid $45 million annually, as sources have told Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic.
The deal could potentially make Stafford one of the highest-paid QBs in the League’s history alongside Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
Rodrigue noted that the number could be a bit lower towards $35 million as the Rams are likely to head in the direction of that amount instead of concerning the franchise’s overall roster continuity. Besides, the 34-year-old has a $12.5 million cap number.
However, the Rams reportedly wanted to maintain their Super Bowl-winning roster in an effort to “run it back” to next year’s Super Bowl, while Stafford appears to not have any plans to pack his bags from the franchise yet. Therefore, the two could budge with each other’s demands as the 2022 season nears.
Prior to the Rams, Stafford had spent 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions and right now his stats have grown tremendously only one season with the Rams. He threw for 4,886 yards with a career-high 41 TDs, 17 INTs and 67.2 percent pass completion rate.
