Evgeni Malkin and Jeff Carter scored two goals each as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Tuesday.

To complement his two points, Malkin, a four-time Hart Trophy winner, had an assist in his season debut with Pittsburgh after returning from an injury.

Mike Sullivan, the head coach of the Penguins, was pleased with the performance of Malkin.

“Obviously we were hopeful that he’d have an immediate impact, and to score two goals like he did tonight, set up an empty-netter on one of (Jeff Carter’s) goals, was quite an impact on the game,” the coach said.

In his first game back after undergoing knee surgery in June, Malkin was able to score two goals in the game.

Carter gave the Penguins a lead in the first period on a quick shot from the faceoff circle. Malkin then made it a two-goal lead for Pittsburgh during the second period after scoring from the high slot.

After the Penguins secured a two-goal lead, Silfverberg scored for the Ducks to make it 2-1.

Pittsburgh’s third goal was scored by Malkin, who redirected a shot by John Marino. It was his first two-goal game this season.

Later, with 2:57 remaining in the game, Malkin hit the empty net to make it 4-1.

Malkin said that he was not trying to score too much after the game. He was just playing as usual and doing his job.

“We had a couple of good chances, power plays, my partners gave me nice pucks, passes,” he said. “I tried to do my job, shoot the puck on the power play, play it simple.”
