The NBA announced on Thursday night that LeBron James and Kevin Durant have been named captains of the two teams in this year’s All-Star Game. The NBA also announced the starters for its annual midseason showcase, which will take place on February 20 in Cleveland.
The Eastern Conference starters include Durant, Chicago Bulls guard DeMar DeRozan and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young in the backcourt, and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in the frontcourt.
Meanwhile, the Western Conference starters are James, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant in the backcourt, as well as reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and forward Andrew Wiggins of the Warriors in the frontcourt.
Both James and Durant were chosen as captains of the teams after winning more fan votes compared to their rival candidates in their respective conferences. James has been a captain in each of the five years the NBA used this system, while for Durant this will be his second straight year.
James is currently tying Kobe Bryant for second place in terms of All-Star appearances with 18, behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 19. The All-Star reserves are set to be revealed on TNT next Thursday, after which James and Durant will then pick their teams.
