It has been reported that Los Angeles Lakers’ star LeBron James has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. He missed Tuesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings and possibly will miss more.
Despite James missing from the court Tuesday night, the Lakers defeated the Kings 117-92, a retaliation over Sacramento’s Friday victory over Los Angeles despite the latter having James in the lineup and the King’s Harrison Barnes and Richaun Holmes missing from the game.
Prior to Tuesday, James had missed 11 of the Lakers’ first 22 games this season due to injuries in his right ankle and an abdominal strain.
The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Lakers then confirmed it by retweeting reporter Mike Trudell. The team, however, has yet to confirm whether James tested positive for COVID-19, had a false positive, or entered the protocols due to close contact with someone who was unvaccinated and had a positive COVID-19 test result.
James previously said in September that he was vaccinated against the virus.
The four-time NBA champion will stay in the protocols for at least 10 days or be released in 24 hours after two negative test results. James could miss more than one game, as per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Lakers are now set to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, the Boston Celtics next Wednesday, the Memphis Grizzlies next Friday, the Oklahoma City Thunder next Saturday, and the Orlando Magic on Monday, December 13.
