Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks admitted some players would be “missing” from practice if Brooklyn needed to prepare for a game, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported on Tuesday.
“Obviously, I can’t get into details for a variety of reasons, whether it’s HIPAA violations or whoever it may be, [but] I think we all understand what’s at stake and we’ve had very candid conversations,” Marks said about his team’s vaccination status.
The latest report from Yaron Weitzman of Fox Sports now says that Nets guard Kyrie Irving has not been vaccinated.
NBA health rules dictate that all team personnel, including players, must comply with the COVID-19 regulations in cities such as New York and San Francisco. They must also be fully immunized to enter home arenas for practices and games unless they could show proof of an approved medical or religious exemption.
According to the latest NBA memo, if Irving remains unvaccinated, he could potentially face a “reduction of his compensation by the NBA,” which is around $300,000 a game.
It was also reported that Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors has not been vaccinated, which means he could also face a similar penalty.
