Kobe Bryant’s rookie jersey will be auctioned off this year. The jersey is estimated to bring in between $3 million to $5 million through an online auction that will be held May 18 until June 4.

The game-worn jersey is his No. 8 Los Angeles Lakers jersey worn during his games in which he has two regular season wins. In addition, he also played in that jersey when he went against the Utah Jazz in the semifinals of the Western Conference playoffs.

Even though the auction will be fully online, SCP Auctions will give permission to potential buyers who want to take a closer look at the jersey.

They will be able to view the jersey in person in Laguna Niguel, California, if they wish to make an appointment.

“We feel this could bring a record for any basketball jersey,” SCP Auctions president David Kohler said.

Last year, Bryant’s signed jersey that he wore during his 1996-97 rookie season was sold for $3.69 million, making it the most expensive record for a basketball jersey.

Billionaire Bob Duggan won the bidding war for the autographed jersey from a Goldin Auctions sale, as per FOX Business in May 2021.

“Kobe Bryant’s legacy will live forever in fans’ hearts and in the Hall of Fame,” said Ken Goldin, the founder of Goldin Auctions last year.

The most expensive jersey from any sport was Babe Ruth’s New York Yankeess jersey. He wore that particular jersey frequently during his playing days back in 1920. The game-worn piece was bought for $4,415,658 in 2012.

Bryant spent his entire 20-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Black Mamba was a five-time NBA champion, a two-time Finals MVP, and won NBA MVP in 2008.
