Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant put on a strong performance to lead the franchise to a hard-fought 110-107 victory over the New York Knicks at Barclays Center on Sunday.
The 12-time NBA All-Star scored a season-high 53 points, and had nine assists and six rebounds to lead the Nets on offense.
The 33-year-old recorded his second 50-plus point game this season, which gives him a total of eight 50-plus point games in his career.
“Kevin was unbelievable,” Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash said. “Carried us. Made a lot of big plays. Rebounds, assists, the whole deal. He was Kevin Durant on full display.”
Durant also spoke about Irving being courtside instead of playing for the team.
“It’s ridiculous,” KD said. “I don’t understand it at all. There’s a few people in our arena that’s unvaxxed, right? They lifted all of that in our arena, right?”
Irving attended the Sunday afternoon game maskless, but is still not allowed to play in New York following the city’s private sector vaccine mandate.
Irving on the courtside means that the Nets are very limited for home games and it appears that Durant will have to do most of the heavy lifting, at least until Ben Simmons makes his debut.
