Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid is shaping up to be an underrated NBA MVP contender this season.

He demonstrated why he should be considered on Wednesday night at home when he scored 50 points in 27 minutes, and guided the team through a strong third quarter in the Sixers 123-110 victory over the Orlando Magic.

“My teammates just found me,” Embiid said. “And I did the rest.”

Embid scored on 17 of 23 field goals, grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked three shots, and hit 15 of 17 free throws .

Officially, Embiid played 27:03 and is the only other player to reach 50 points in that amount of time in the shot clock era. The other player was Golden State Warriors star, Klay Thompson, who scored 52 points on Oct. 29, 2018, in 26:33 of game time.

“I played with [Basketball Hall of Famer] Dominique [Wilkins], and I don’t know if I’ve seen that,” Philly head coach Doc Rivers said. “I’ve seen Dominique score more, but it took the whole game. That was easy, quick, efficient and determined.”
