Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler tied a team record with a 45-point scoring night to help lead Miami to a 115-105 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 2 of their playoff series.

With his 45 points, he joins the record-breaking duo of LeBron James and Dwayne Wade who also accomplished the same scoring feat.

Butler scored his points on 15-of-25 from the field and 11-of-12 from the foul line. He also had five rebounds, five assists, and made two steals, which is another Heat playoff record.

In addition, his zero turnovers and zero fouls made him the first player since Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins to achieve those records during the 1988 postseason.

Having won the night, the six-time NBA All-Star took a detour from what went down during the Heat’s last NBA Finals.

“I am a different player now than I was then,” Butler said referring to the 2020 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. “I just always want to play basketball the right way and do whatever it takes to help this team, this organization win. That’s why they brought me (here).”

Butler also praised teammate Kyle Lowry.

“I’m not as ball-dominant as I was in the bubble,” he added. “We got a point guard, and that’s Kyle, and I love him being a point guard. I just get to go out there and try to score. And if I can’t score, pass the ball. We’re a different team; I’m a different player.”

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was pleased with his team’s performance versus Atlanta and lauded Butler’s impressive numbers.

“Jimmy is a max guy, a go-to guy, a killer,” Spoelstra said. “He’s just a winner, and he showed that tonight.”
