Houston Astros star shortstop Carlos Correa has been in the headlines recently due to a comment he made about New York Yankees legend and former captain Derek Jeter.
In a Spanish-language Facebook Live show hosted by former MLB player Carlos Baerga, Correa blasted Jeter’s Gold Glove awards.
“Derek Jeter. How many Gold Gloves did he win? Five. I think he won five. Derek Jeter did not deserve any of them,” Correa said. “You know how much Derek Jeter’s (DRS (defensive runs saved) was) in his career? Negative 160. In his career. But your eyes can lie to you.”
Correa himself just won his first Gold Glove last week and the Platinum Glove as the best defensive player in the American League. Perhaps he forgot that his teammate, Jose Altuve, won the Gold Glove in 2015, despite also having a negative-5 DRS, like Jeter, that season.
This winter, the 27-year-old Correa could be one of the most exciting names to join free agency, and the Yankees are one of the teams that could potentially fulfill Correa’s demands.
“Sources have indicated that when it comes to Correa in particular, he will not settle for anything less than the $341 million figure that Francisco Lindor got from the Mets,” Matthew Roberson of the NY Daily News reported on Wednesday.
