The Boston Celtics successfully sealed their 115-114 win over the visiting Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon in the first game of their playoff series when forward Jayson Tatum made a buzzer-beating layup off a brilliant pass from Marcus Smart.

At halftime, both teams were tied 61-61. When the Nets led 114-113 in the last quarter, Kevin Durant misfired his three with 15.0 seconds remaining.

The Celtics managed to secure the rebound. However, Smart actually had the chance to help get the win before Tatum took his leap of faith.

“We all thought Smart was gonna shoot it,” said Tatum after the game. “When he took that dribble, we made eye contact, he made a great pass and I just had to make a layup.

That shot ended the game and gave the Celtics, the No. 2 seed, a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series over Brooklyn going into Game 2 on Wednesday.

NBA reporter Gary Washburn tweeted that the game was one of the top 3 games he had ever seen in the Garden.

Tatum himself scored 31 points on 9-of-18 shooting, He also had eight assists, while Irving led all scorers with 39 points on 12-of-20 shooting.
