Jayson Tatum scores 29 points as Celtics sweep Nets 4-0
The Boston Celtics defeated the Brooklyn Nets 116-112 to sweep their playoff series and put an end to the much-hyped Nets season.
Forward Jayson Tatum and guards Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart pushed hard to ensure a clean sweep for the Celtics over the Nets. Tatum racked up a team-high 29 points, five assists, and three rebounds, while both Brown and Marcus managed 22 and 20 points, respectively.
”Couldn’t believe it at all, but I think that’s what we’re built for,” Tatum said.
All-Star forward Kevin Durant tried his best to up Brooklyn’s game by hitting 39 points, unlike in the previous three games where he got bested by Boston’s versatile defense, which had resulted in KD’s limited points-scoring abilities. Durant only made 19 for 52 and had 17 turnovers throughout the previous games.
But his outstanding Game 4 performance was not enough to propel Brooklyn over Boston’s dominance.
“A lot of stuff that may factor into why we lose, but they were just a better team,” Durant said.
Back in October last year, NBA released the annual survey of all 30 general managers regarding who would win this season’s NBA championship. The Nets received 72 percent of the votes to win the title. However, with a few roster lineup issues alongside a subpar playoff performance, Brooklyn now has to pack their bags and try again next season.
'It's funny to us, because we don't duck and dodge anybody,We knew what we were going to come in here and do.''
- Marcus Smart
"probably the closest sweep you'll ever see."
