Former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer’s tenure was short-lived in Florida and it did not display a pretty picture, according to the latest report by The Athletic’s Jayson Senks and Mike Sando.

“The most toxic environment I’ve ever been a part of,” a member of the Jaguars operations staff told The Athletic. “By far. Not even close.”

The Jaguars decided to hire Meyer on January 14, 2021 and Meyer claimed that he had prepared for quite some time before he took the job.

Meyer had several problems not long after he was hired. One of the problems was he did not follow the NFL’s protocols regarding team practices. As a result, the league fined him $100,000 and the Jaguars $200,000 in July.

Even after Jacksonville suffered multiple losses and bad results, the team still kept him around until a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke in December that stated Meyer had been clashing with his own staff members and players.

“He feels like threats are what motivates,” former Jaguars player D.J. Chark told Senks and Sando. “I know he would come up to us and tell us if the receivers weren’t doing good, he wasn’t going to fire us, he was going to fire our coach. He would usually say that when the coach was around.”

Meyer was also allegedly reported to have bullied and undermined some groups of players, saying that they “couldn’t get a job paying more than $15 an hour,” if he cut them.

Jacksonville finally had enough with Meyer and sacked him following a Tampa Bay Times report that found he had physically assaulted former kicker Josh Lambo.

As a result of his behavior and the Jaguars’ performance, Meyer was fired on December 16, 2021, finishing his time with the Jaguars with a 2–11 (.154) record.

The Jaguars chose Doug Pederson to replace Meyer.
