Atlanta Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter will undergo surgery for a right wrist injury, potentially keeping him out of the lineup for quite some time.
The Hawks confirmed the news on Sunday after a 120-100 victory over the defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks.
The Athletics’ Shams Charania broke the announcement on his Twitter account.
“Hawks ‘De’Andre Hunter will undergo surgery on a tendon injury in his right wrist and miss approximately two months,” Charania reported.
Hunter underwent an MRI on Saturday that confirmed a tendon injury. Dr. Steven Shin will perform the surgery Monday in Los Angeles. Hunter is expected to be sidelined for around eight weeks, the team said.
Kevin Huerter, who replaced Hunter, contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
During last season’s post-season, Hunter had to be hospitalized after surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus.
Hunter was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft and averaging 10.8 points in 11 games this season.
The Hawks are up against the Orlando Magic on Monday.
