The NBA is under heavy criticism after imposing a rather weak one-game suspension on the Milwaukee Bucks’ Grayson Allen over his foul that broke the wrist of the Chicago Bulls’ Alex Caruso in last Friday’s game.

Allen will be out of the lineup on Wednesday when the Bucks face the Cleveland Cavaliers due to the suspension.

“We disagree with the suspension,” the Bucks said in a statement. “We support Grayson and look forward to him rejoining our team for Friday’s game versus New York.”

Allen undercut Caruso after the Bulls player received a pass and made his way to the basket. Allen’s left hand hooked Caruso’s right arm that sent the latter flying. Caruso fell hard to the ground and stayed there.

It was later confirmed that he would need surgery to fix his broken wrist and was ruled out of six to eight weeks. Allen was removed from the court and given a Flagrant 2 foul.

“Really, really bad,” Bulls coach Billy Donovan said of the incident. “For Alex to be in the air like that, for him to take him down like that, he could have ended his career. And (Allen) has a history of this. That, to me, was really dangerous.”

The one-game suspension was welcomed with heavy criticisms with Bulls center Nikola Vucevic describing what he considered “very dirty play.”

“The play Grayson Allen made has no place in basketball,” Vucevic said.

Former NBA player and Bulls analyst Kendall Gill slammed the Bucks for their response to Allen’s suspension in addition to criticizing the weak ban.

“I totally disagree with the one-game suspension,” Gill said. “I thought that he should have gotten at least four or five (games). A one-game suspension is just a slap on the wrist. He might do this again because he knows all I’m gonna get is one game.”
