NFL commissioner Roger Goodell talked to reporters on Tuesday regarding the ongoing Washington Football Team investigation and said the league would not publish the findings to protect the anonymity of those who have stepped forward.
“We’re very conscious of making sure we’re protecting those who came forward,” Goodell said. “They were incredibly brave, incredibly open, and we respect the pain that they probably went through all over again to come forward. That was a very high priority.”
This decision practically closed the door for two former Washington employees who hand-delivered a letter signed by 12 other ex-employees on Tuesday pleading for the NFL to release full findings from its inquiry.
When asked about Dan Snyder, the co-owner of the Washington Football Team, Goodell said that Snyder had paid the price.
“I do think he’s been held accountable for, I think the organization has been held accountable,” Goodell said. “And I think we’ve given an unprecedented fine. Dan Snyder has not been involved with the franchise for now almost four months.”
WFT was fined $10 million back in July, even though Snyder has not been personally punished. His wife, Tanya, now serves as co-CEO.
Last week, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.), chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) asked Goodell to produce “all documents and communications obtained in connection with the investigation into the WFT, its management, its owners, and any other matter relating to or resulting from the WFT investigation” by November 4.
