It has been confirmed that Framber Valdez will start Game 1 of the World Series for the Houston Astros against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

Manager Dusty Baker announced the decision on Sunday, but also said the team had not decided on the starter for Game 2 on Wednesday.

The left-handed Valdez will face former Houston pitcher Charlie Morton who pitched from 2017-18, helping the Astros win Game 7 of the 2017 World Series.

Valdez threw eight innings in Game 5 of the AL Championship Series, where the Astros won 9-1. He allowed three runs in 2-2/3 innings in Game 1.

The Astros, however, did not disclose any new information about Lance McCullers Jr., who injured the flexor-pronator muscle in his right arm in Game 4 of the AL Division Series. The injury resulted in him being removed from the team’s ALCS roster.

The 28-year-old pitcher has yet to start throwing since then, but general manager James Click refused to rule out his return.

“We’re not taking anything off the table,” Click said. “We’re going to see how he is. This is the World Series, so it’s obviously something that I know that Lance wants to be out there if he can. So we will talk to the doctors and him and the trainers, and we’ll figure it out from there.”
