E-Rod to start Red Sox Game 3 vs. Houston Astros
- Red Sox
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will start Game 3 of the AL Championship Series against the Houston Astros.
The decision, which allowed Nick Pivetta to be available for Game 4 or the bullpen, was revealed on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Astros will start right-hander Jose Urquidy on Monday night.
“I’ve been throwing 30-plus starts this year,” said Rodriguez, who was missing in action last year due to coronavirus-related heart disease. “If you ask me that, that shows you everything. I’m 100 percent. I’ve got two starts already in the postseason. I’m 100 percent on everything.”
Rodriguez was 13-8 with a 4.74 ERA this season. This postseason, he is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA.
He had two starts against the Tampa Bay Rays in the division series. In Game 1, he allowed two runs and got five outs, while in Game 4, he pitched five innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
In two games against the Astros during the regular season, he allowed six runs per game.
