Longtime Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is finally going back home.

Freeman, a California native, has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a six-year, $162 million deal after playing 12 years for the Braves.

Freeman won the 2020 National League MVP and his great performance helped the Braves secure their fourth straight NL East title last season, and their first World Series title since 1995 after defeating the Houston Astros.

When the Braves celebrated their championship at Minute Maid Park, the three-time Silver Slugger award winner expressed his intention to stay in Atlanta.

“This is a crazy game, a crazy business,” Freeman said. “But everyone knows this is where my heart is. I’ve been here since I was 17 years old, almost half my life I’ve been in this organization. It means everything to put that Braves uniform on every day.”

Now the first baseman has to change his allegence to Dodgers’ blue.

On Wednesday, Freeman wrote his farewell to the Braves fans on Instagram.

“Braves Country I don’t even know where to begin,” Freeman wrote in his post. “For the past 15 years I got to be part of your organization. It was truly an honor. We went through the very highs together and some lows but those lows is what made last year so special.

“I gave everything I had day in and day out and I hope you guys saw that as well,” he continued. “Although our time has come to an end, I look forward to seeing and playing in front of you all again. When that time comes, I hope you remember all the wonderful memories we made together.”

In his 12th season, Freeman has 31 homers, 83 RBIs, and an NL-leading 120 runs.
