Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been suspended for 11 games of the upcoming 2022 NFL season, according to the terms of a settlement reached between the league and the NFL Players Association.

In addition to the suspension, he faces a $5 million fine for breaching the NFL’s personal-conduct policy, as well as required assessment by behavioral experts and compliance with their treatment.

Over two dozen women have accused Watson of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.

According to ESPN, if Watson does not follow the treatment plan, his reinstatement could be postponed and he could face additional punishment.

In a statement released by the Browns, Watson addressed the outcome of the agreement.

“I’m grateful that the disciplinary process has ended and extremely appreciative of the tremendous support I have received throughout my short time with the Browns organization,” he said.

Moreover, he stressed that he would “take accountability” for his actions.

“I apologize once again for any pain this situation has caused. I take accountability for the decisions I made,” he added.

When asked if his previous apologies were especially to the women who made accusations against him, he responded that he had “apologized to all women, so anybody that was affected.”

The NFL and the Browns each pledged $1 million on Thursday. Combined with Watson’s $5 million fine, will produce a $7 million fund to aid the prevention of sexual misconduct and assault.

In a press conference on Thursday following the announcement of the settlement agreement, Watson then spoke to reporters. He affirmed his innocence and noted his decision to resolve the cases against him.

“I feel like a person has an opportunity to stand on his innocence and prove that, and we proved that from a legal side, and just going to continue to push forward as an individual and as a person,” he said.

According to the Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski on Thursday, although Watson started the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, he will not play again this preseason.

"Since Deshaun came into our building in April, he has done everything we have asked of him and more."

"I've always stood by my innocence and I'm going to continue to stand by that, but at the same time, I have to keep moving forward in my life and my career."
