Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan led his team to a 125-118 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night scoring 38 points on 16-of-27 shots and breaking a record set by Wilt Chamberlain.
DeRozan has now scored at least 35 points on at least 50 percent shooting for the seventh consecutive game, which is an NBA record.
Hall of Famer Chamberlain held the previous record of six consecutive 35-point/50-percentage-point games, which DeRozan tied with a 40-point performance in a win over San Antonio on Monday.
DeRozan’s performance against the Kings piqued the interest of one of Sacramento’s shining stars, stud point guard De’Aaron Fox. Following DeRozan and the Bulls’ victory over the Kings, Fox stated that he believes DeRozan is “playing like the MVP” right now.
In his 13th season in the NBA, DeRozan is generating a career-high 28.1 points per game on 51.7 percent shooting, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. His 34.3 percent three-point rate of success is the finest of his career, but his mid-range game remains his specialty. According to StatMuse, he is on course to break the most mid-range shots by a “non-big” since Kobe Bryant in 2005-2006.
Despite missing several of its core players like Lonzo Ball for the last month and Alex Caruso for the last three weeks, not to mention a two-week Zach Lavine absence, Chicago has managed to stay afloat, going 12-11 in their last 23 games.
