The debate on whether an “unfair” overtime rule in the NFL should be amended has been resurrected following Sunday’s overtime win by the Kansas City Chiefs over the Buffalo Bills thanks to that very rule.

The rule states that if the team with the first possession scores a touchdown, it becomes the winner.

And, that is exactly what happened, as the Chiefs won the coin toss, got the ball first, and drove downfield, where QB Patrick Mahomes completed a game-winning touchdown pass to Travis Kelce, while the Bills never had a chance to possess the ball again.

“The rules are what they are,’’ Bills quarterback Josh Allen said. “I can’t really complain about it because if it happened to us, we’d be out there celebrating like (the Chiefs) did.’’

NFL fans have taken to Twitter to demand a rule change, especially since before the incident, Allen recorded four touchdown passes, but was denied a rebuttal thanks to the overtime rule.

Kelce claimed he agreed that the NFL should change the overtime rule, saying “being in that situation, really having no rebuttal, it’s kind of tough”.
