The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that quarterback Carson Wentz, Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly, and receiver Zach Pascal have been placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
Dan Graziano of ESPN was told that the players were placed on the list after coming in contact with a staff member whose COVID-19 test returned positive, indicating that they haven’t been vaccinated. Players who have been vaccinated would only be placed on the list for a positive test result, according to NFL protocols.
If the players continue to have negative tests and remain asymptomatic in five days, they will be allowed to return.
Wentz previously said during training camp that being vaccinated is “a personal decision.”
Head coach Frank Reich was asked how concerned he was about COVID-19 cases through close-contacts following last week’s preseason finale in Detroit.
“I don’t like to play that card, but it is what it is,” Reich said. “So, yes, it does show that. It shows that a player can be a close contact and not have it, but that can happen in a lot of different ways. We’ll continue to educate the players. I still respect, greatly respect, the choice that each individual player has. We’ll continue to educate and give whatever counsel we can. We recommend that every player should be vaccinated, but we respect the individual choice.”
