Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman J.J. Watt will play against his former team, the Houston Texans, this week. Houston is where he played for 10 seasons before he left last year.

When asked by reporters if the game would be like a reunion to him, Watt said there is “obviously something more to it.”

“I don’t think that it’s what people may think it is because, I mean, you look at the roster and you look at the guys that are there, I mean it’s been so massively turned over that there’s only a handful of guys that are even there from last year that I played with,” Watt said Thursday. “So, it’s not like, I’m like, ‘Oh, I want to go and beat my old team’ or ‘Oh, I can’t wait to face this guy,’ because it’s not the same team. It’s not the same organization that I remember and that I was a part of.”

Watt said “yeah” when asked by ESPN’s Sarah Barshop whether the team’s persistent high turnover was among the reasons he left.

The Cardinals are undefeated so far this season, while the Texans have lost five out of six games.

“That’s why it hurts me to see where it is now, because I believe those fans deserve to be living those high times and to be experiencing those great moments and it hurts to know that they’re not, and to know that they’re struggling,” Watt said.

The 32-year old had some of his best seasons at NRG Stadium. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times and won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2017. Watt was also selected to both Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro five times during his time in Houston.
