On Wednesday, the NBA announced that the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls will have to forfeit their next second-round draft picks as a result of interfering penalties,

The NBA reached its conclusion after looking into the situations around the acquisitions of Kyle Lowry and Lonzo Ball after a four-month investigation. The fact that the point guards switched teams during the winter caused some concerns inside the league.

The NBA held multiple interviews with team officials and player agents, as well as gathering electronic evidence from the front-office executives of four teams: the Bulls, the New Orleans Hornets, the Heat, and the Toronto Raptors.

The launch of a league investigation into whether improper contact and talks happened prior to the start of free agency on August 2 at 6 p.m. ET was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on August 7.

In a released statement, the Heat said, “While we disagree, we accept the league’s decision.”

As for the Bulls, they said, “We are glad this process has concluded and look forward to the rest of our season.”

Still, many people still wonder if the potential punishment for teams who break the tampering regulations will change, because, at this point, it appears that restricting the team of a second-round pick is merely a “slap on the wrist” for those teams.
