Not even seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady could prevent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ shocking 29-19 loss to the Washington Football Team on Sunday.
It was a night to forget for Brady, as he was intercepted twice in the game. In addition, the Bucs gave up 256 passing yards and a touchdown to Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
“It’s very disappointing,” Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians said. “It’s very alarming to watch the energy at every practice and show up with a lack of execution and energy that it takes to win on Sunday. We’ve got a lot of soul-searching to do.”
Almost every pundit predicted it would be an easy win for the Buccaneers with the team they have and coming off a bye week looking to redeem their loss against the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago.
“Energy and passion are very fixable,” Arians said. “The penalties — they’ve gotta get corrected sooner or later. The first play of the game — they’re shifting and we jump offsides. They don’t even run a play and we jump offsides. The stupidity has to go away if we’re gonna go anywhere.”
Arians did accept responsibility for some of the team’s other errors on Sunday. However, he added that he and the coaching staff have to look in the mirror and move forward.
“It has nothing to do with ability,” Arians said. “It’s all about execution and being a smart football team. We’re a really dumb football team and that’s a reflection of the coaches.”
Brady, visibly disappointed and upset, spoke to reporters for less than two minutes post-game.
“We just never really played on our terms,” Brady said. “We played behind the whole game. They played a good game. They had a good plan. It doesn’t matter who you play if you have a bunch of self-inflicted errors too. We’ve gotta go out and execute the plays that were there.”

MAKE IT QUICK. Got to love how ANGRY this man is about losing a game to Washington in November. No clue where he's going to channel this energy when (if?) he retires.
